Beginning with famine and tragedy, the story of Ruth ends with a community rejoicing over a baby. The story of Ruth in many ways anticipates the story of Mary and therefore Jesus. Ruth reveals God's heart for a community in which the foreigner and marginalized is given full participation in the community of faith. Ruth reveals a community where children are celebrated, the elderly cared for, and where all are fed and where joy is present.
